Paris Attacks Terrorists Used PS4 to Communicate? Sony Responds

Sony has responded to allegations that ISIS used PS4 to communicate during the Paris attacks.

With the world left in shock after the horrors that befell humanity in the Paris attacks, all types of speculations are being made as to what made it all happen. On the sidelines, it is also being discussed how the terrorists communicated with each other where a number of people are saying they might have used PS4 and/or Whatsapp.

The fact that a gaming console is being suspected of being the medium that ISIS uses, in itself, is alarming. However, Sony Computer Entertainment has responded to the claims reiterating that they take responsibility to take action against anything suspicious.

Interestingly, they don’t appear to be sure whether PS4 was used or not; they are just suggesting they take a step when they identify or get notified – they did not say if they are sure whether ISIS used PS4 to communicate with the Paris attacks terrorists or not.

Here’s the official statement by Sony Computer Entertainment:

PlayStation 4 allows for communication amongst friends and fellow gamers and, in common with all modern connected devices, this has the potential to be abused. However, we take our responsibilities to protect our users extremely seriously and we urge our users and partners to report activities that may be offensive, suspicious or illegal. When we identify or are notified of such conduct, we are committed to taking appropriate actions in conjunction with the appropriate authorities and will continue to do so.

Do keep in mind that the allegations have not been raised by some low scale and low authority figures, reputable publications like Forbes, Daily Mail, Telegraph, The Express, IBT, Mirror have all reported the same.

More importantly, it was Belgium’s deputy prime minister and minister of Security and Home Affairs, Jan Jambon who suggested PS4 was being used by terrorists to communicate.
