A Hindu Cleric has just gone public with his concerns regarding Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, asking Sony and Naughty Dog to be extra careful and sensitive while portraying their religion. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed is urging Sony Corporation and its subsidiaries to depict Hindu deities, temples, traditions, and concepts with respect and accuracy, forgetting that games are fictional and a form of art that may add its own color over minor details.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is centered around tusk of Hindu deity Lord Ganesh and Hinduism. According to Rajan, Hinduism concepts, traditions, objects and deities should be presented authentically. He is against fantasized or re-imagined versions of Hindu concepts. However, he had faith is the level of skill and care Naughty Dog has shown in the past.
With seasoned and skillful professionals at the helm, we did not expect any problem, Rajan Zed said and added that they were just urging for more sensitivity towards faith traditions and careful handling of Hindu concepts and terminology.
While his community is all for free speech, they are not willing to tolerate any “attempts at belittling” Hinduism as it hurts the devotees. Games are a powerful medium which can leave a lasting impact on the unsuspecting minds of highly impressionable children, teens, and other young people.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is releasing on August 22 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro with 4K and HDR support. The standalone Uncharted 4 DLC is available to pre-order for $39.99 and offers over 10-hours of gameplay.
The Lost Legacy may not be the final Uncharted game to release, the developer has hinted more content for the future.
