Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Physical Sales Are Down By Nearly Half
The troubles just keep coming for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. According to a survey done by the data firm NPD Group, Infinite Warfare physical sales are down by nearly half since the week of release, though there isn’t really any word about how digital sales are doing.
Infinite Warfare’s troubles were with it right from the start when the game was first announced earlier this year, when its reveal trailer was inundated with millions of dislikes (3.4 million to be exact) with people complaining about the game going even farther into the future instead of either staying in a remotely relatable time or even going back to World War 2.
With the news about Infinite Warfare physical copies, it even puts Activision’s gamble into question, when the company announced that Infinite Warfare and its much more highly anticipated counterpart Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered would come bundled together and could not be bought separately, which was likely an attempt to get people to buy Infinite Warfare despite their feelings.
While Infinite Warfare did get a fairly good reception upon release for its high-quality single player campaign, its lackluster multiplayer along with what seems like many people just not buying Call of Duty is likely the reason for the downturn in Infinite Warfare physical sales.
What makes it even worse is that Infinite Warfare has only been out for around a month, more than enough time for Activision to decide whether the game was successful or not. From the start, sales of Infinite Warfare were 17% below what was projected (according to Doug Creutz, a Crowen analyst), meaning that even though it was bundled with Modern Warfare Remastered a lot of people had just decided not to buy it, either out of protest at Infinite Warfare or because they didn’t want to buy both games, which would have obviously impacted Infinite Warfare physical sales.
