Metal Gear Survive is an upcoming co-op zombie game from Konami. A Metal Gear without a Metal Gear does not feel like a Metal Gear game at all.

The game is using assets from The Phantom Pain to put together a new experience that does not fit into lore. The franchise is about political fiction and espionage so zombies don’t fit the bill. Fans understand this but sadly Konami executives don’t.

Which is why the game is getting plenty of hate on social media. The official YouTube channel of the company where it shared gameplay footage of Metal Gear Survive has received over 15,000 dislikes at the time of this writing and that is on just one channel.

Comments section isn’t any better as majority of the comments are begging Konami to not destroy Metal Gear. One wonders if Konami is seeing the community feedback.

The concept of the title was rumored to have come from Hideo Kojima himself. However, the man outright denied these rumors and said that he has nothing to do with Metal Gear Survive. Yoji Shinkawa added that if they were involved, the game would have featured mechs.

It has nothing to do [with me]. I know absolutely nothing about it. That’s because it’s totally unrelated to me, right? Um, how should I put this? Well, for me, Metal [Gear] is espionage with political fiction. Right? So, because of that, there’s no reason that zombies would show up. This is how I see it, you know?

Konami is taking the franchise towards an odd direction, one that does not fit with premise of this IP. Fans are understandably angry with how the company is handling this series.

Metal Gear Survive is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
