CDPR Could’ve Expanded The Witcher 3 But Devs Are Crazy for CyberPunk 2077
CD Projekt RED won’t be expanding The Witcher 3 beyond Blood and Wine DLC, even though there are a million directions they could take. This is because devs are crazy excited for their next project, Cyberpunk 2077.
After the release of The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine, devs will completely focus on CyberPunk 2077 rather than worrying about what could be done next for The Witcher; Geralt’s story will come to an end.
According to CD RED, its team loves Geralt but the excitement for CyberPunk makes it a little easier saying goodbye. The Witcher series got success due to a snowball effect, word of mouth from its hardcore fanbase which exploded after the release of The Witcher 3. Meanwhile, CyberPunk 2077 is a game that appealed to the masses instantly and they will do their best to live up to expectations.
Jose Teixeira, a visual effects artist for CD Projekt RED said:
To be honest, the politically correct answer is yes, it is sad [to finish Geralt’s story]. But the truth is that everyone is so insanely pumped about working on the next project, Cyberpunk 2077. We could’ve made a million expansions for The Witcher because there’s so many stories in that world but everyone is crazy excited about Cyberpunk 2077
He went on to say:
There is a difference between how games like this reach a general audience. With The Witcher it was a snowball effect and there was this core of hardcore gamers that knew about The Witcher and they passed the word along. It was a very slow process. With Cyberpunk 2077 all they did was this little mood trailer and it just went insane. It was like an avalanche of interest immediately. It clicks with people instantly and it does the exact same thing with me.
The Witcher is a series that won’t be forgotten but looking at how great Cyberpunk 2077 could turn out to be, it does get a little easier letting go of Geralt.
However, do give a proper send off by playing Blood and Wine DLC. It offers over 20 hours of gameplay content and should release in the next couple of months.
