Tomb Raider Linux Port is Coming, Feral Interactive is Developing
The masters of porting, Feral Interactive, will be making a Tomb Raider Linux port, which will be released at some point this spring.
Tomb Raider is currently available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4, along with both PC and Macintosh OSX, but it has yet to be ported over to Linux. It will be the first game in the series to do so after it’s released.
The first Tomb Raider game, which was developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, then released in 2013, is a re-imagining of the Tomb Raider series, showing Lara Croft on her first tomb-raiding mission as she fights to free herself and her friends from the sinister island of the storm goddess Himiko while fighting the cult that serves her.
Its sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, came out last year as a timed exclusive for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 before being released on the PC. It is set to be released for the Playstation 4 in the second half of 2016.
The game focuses on Lara’s journey to uncover the mystery of the Prophet while fighting against the Order of the Trinity. The game takes her to numerous other locations, including Syria and Siberia in Northern Russia.
Rise of the Tomb Raider also recently released its first DLC pack, in the form of the “Baba Yaga” quest chain. A second DLC pack, “Cold Darkness Awakened,” will release on March 29 for PC and Xbox consoles.
The Tomb Raider Linux version will also support SteamOS and Ubuntu (a Linux-exclusive operating system). David Stephen, the managing director of Feral Interactive, also released a statement with the news.
“We are delighted to be bringing one of gaming’s best-loved franchises to Linux in the exhilarating form of Tomb Raider. It traces Lara’s evolution from amateur explorer to battle hardened survivor in an amazing adventure that Linux gamers will relish.”
The Tomb Raider Linux port will be available on Feral Interactive’s store, Steam, and numerous third-party sellers for $19.99.
