Nvidia and Stanford University are working on a new VR headset that will probably hit store shelves by 2018. VR is an emerging market, with companies like Sony, Oculus and more fighting hard to grab the larger market share and attract consumers.

Nvidia is putting its hopes into Stanford University to help create a stronghold in the VR market. In a statement David Luebke senior director of research at Nvidia said:

This is because of the vergence-accommodation conflict, which is how much the lens of your eye has to change to bring sharp focus to your retina.

On the other hand, Gordon Wetzstein, assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at Stanford University shared details about something called ” light field stereoscope.”

It provides a much richer and more natural visual experience than conventional head mounted displays and has the potential to reduce nausea, eyestrain, and also increase visual comfort.

VR is being considered as the future of gaming, at least by companies working on such devices. VR can only be successful if developer support is sufficient, in addition to prices being reasonable enough.
