September is getting close and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will finally be released. PC owners have had some bad news though as there will be no pre-load available.
This has been revealed by Robert Allen Peeler, the Online Community Manager for Metal Gear Solid on Twitter:
@suPirman unfortunately PC Steam will not have a preload option, however players will be able to preload on console

As you can see from the replies that come after his confirmation, this is not welcome news.
Obviously, the negative response is because of the fact that gamers can expect a 28GB download on the day of release. There will also be an issue with exactly when the download will unlock on Steam. This can either be at 12am local time, or as with some releases later in the day. Telltale Games for example release their games around 10:00am Pacific Time, which is 6:00pm BST.
Obviously the later in the day the game is available the more annoyed fans are going to be, especially if their internet connection is slow. At 28GB, this will be a few hours for even the fastest home internet connections.
While people who have pre-ordered the game will obviously be annoyed that the PC version can not be pre-loaded like the console versions, hopefully the release itself will be without any other problems. We’ll have to see if this is the case on the day of release.
