It’s true that “Man behind the gun is more important than the gun itself” but guns are important when both sides are equally strong. And when it comes to killing zombies in masses,one should be careful in choosing weapons and one should know the potential of the weapon being used in a particular situation.
Not all weapons are suitable for all scenarios. Some might help you in certain situations other might not and vice versa.
Weapon selection is important in any FPS game specially in the games like L4D where zombies never end.If you know about the potential of each weapon then you can use them wisely in different situations.L4D2 has got some new weapons which were not present in the L4D.
Melee weapons are of special importance as they can be useful for short range combat with zombies.Let us have a look on all the weapons available in the game first and then we can decide that which weapon will be helpful in different situations:
Left4dead 2 Weapons Guide
P220 Pistol
This weapons is available to the survivors at the start of the game and has infinite ammo.You can fire this weapon at zombies without taking ammo into consideration.Survivors can fire this weapon even when they are down.

Same as of above mentioned weapon with minute Base damage difference of 5.
Pump Shotgun
it’s another useful short range weapon.One bullet is sufficient to kill a zombie.Takes almost 3 magazines to kill a tank.So it can be useful against tanks but you will have to come closer to the tank as it’s a short range weapon and can’t do same damage when fired from long range.
