When Will Overwatch 2 Release?

Even though it was announced at BlizzCon 2019 this past weekend, there hasn't been any sort of Overwatch 2 release date announcement yet.

Overwatch 2 was announced at BlizzCon 2019 this past weekend, but despite a lot of information about how the game would be expanded from the original, there was no information about an Overwatch 2 release date. Now, Overwatch fans are clamoring for any information about when the game will come out, and on what.

The original Overwatch was first revealed at BlizzCon 2015, and came out in May of 2016 to rave reviews and an active playerbase, helped along by an eagle-eyed anti-cheating service. While it was a multiplayer-only game, it still had a lot of lore around it that was helped by various events.

Overwatch 2 promises even more than that with more characters, new maps, and an actual story mode as the newly-revived Overwatch takes on missions around the globe to protect it from various threats like Null Sector and Talon.

However, neither trailer gave us any hints at an Overwatch 2 release date. While the the original game’s reveal trailer also didn’t end with a release date, it managed to come out fairly soon after it was revealed, only with a gap of around six months.

However, considering Overwatch 2’s larger scope, the question becomes how much longer will it take until Overwatch 2 releases? While the original Overwatch mutated its maps for story events (such as the Null Sector event in King’s Row), there’s no guarantee that Overwatch 2 won’t make entirely new maps exclusively for the story.

Exactly when Blizzard Entertainment will give us a release date remains to be seen, but it might be around the time that they start once again putting out multiplayer betas for people to try. However, that may be a longer way off than normal, considering the extra work that will be needed for a game like this.

We can likely expect to hear about when Overwatch 2 will release sometime around whenever they begin to put out alphas and betas for other gameplay. In the meantime, we can likely expect it to release on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC sometime in the near future.
