VR Games are quickly gaining popularity and VR headsets are selling like hot cakes. PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift,HTC VIVE all have a decent market share and demand.
PlayStation VR is probably the most popular of them all due to its affordable cost and great content support. Resident Evil 7, Final Fantasy XV VR Experience, Battlefront VR, Batman Arkham VR and many other games are coming to PlayStation’s VR device.
However, many of them aren’t full VR games; they are brief VR experiences and it looks like that’s what Sony is focused on. According to Sony chief Andrew House:
I tend to liken the VR experience more to something like a theme park ride, in that it’s short, but it’s very intense and it’s very enjoyable.
The big positive I do see for VR [games] is that unlike conventional game experiences – which tend to be similar to blockbusters in terms of production values and complex game mechanics- they can offer simple mechanics and experiences that are still very, very enjoyable because they can give users something they’ve never done before. That, I think, is where its true potential lies
Resident Evil 7 is one of the games that is fully playable in VR while Final Fantasy XV and Battlefront are brief VR experiences. We don’t really know much about Batman Arkham VR so it is hard to say if it is a short experience or a full game.
We will know more about Batman Arkham VR in the coming weeks and months.
