Virtual Console has been expected to be introduced to Nintendo Switch ever since it was launched, however, Nintendo has confirmed that Nintendo Switch will not be getting one and Nintendo has no plans for it.
A Nintendo representative told Kotaku that there are no plans for a virtual console on Switch but that doesn’t mean it won’t be able to run older titles as Switch Online service will bring classic NES games to Nintendo Switch.
There are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo systems.
There are a variety of ways in which classic games from Nintendo and other publishers are made available on Nintendo Switch, such as through Nintendo Entertainment System. Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online will provide a fun new way to experience classic NES games that will be different from the Virtual Console service, thanks to enhancements such as added online play, voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online app and the various play modes of Nintendo Switch.
However, this is not the first time Nintendo has indicated that it has no plans for a Virtual Console as Satoshi Yamato noted that SNES Classic is the form of Virtual Console.
Speaking of Switch, with Switch being extremely successful one would assume that Nintendo will finally drop the support for the 3DS, however, Nintendo has noted that it will support 3DS until Switch becomes a one-per-person system.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima noted that despite 3DS being 7 years old is still being supported by Nintendo because it is cheaper compared to Switch and that makes it easier for parents to but this handheld for their children.
Do you think this is a right decision from Nintendo to not include Virtual Console to Switch? Let us know in the comments.
