According to newly surfaced reports, Valve’s Yanis Varoufakis is to become Greece’s new Minister of Finance.
A few PC players might be familiar with Varoufakis. He was Valve’s in-house economist and responsible for charting the sales of Dota 2 items, Counter-Strike weapon packs, and more. As it turns out, Varoufakis might bid Valve a farewell to put an end to Greece’s financial crisis as he has been named one of the candidates for Minister of Finance.
PCGamesN reports that after Gabe Newell read Varoufakis’ blog, he invited him at Valve to link Steam’s virtual economies together. After visiting and learning more about Steam, Varoufakis decided to work as a private consultant for the company.
Now that the anti-austerity party Syriza has won the election in Greece, Varoufakis might leave Valve for good and start working on tackling the joint economy of Greece and Germany. We hope that his experience at Valve would help him in some capacity and wish him luck for his future endeavors.
