We’ve already covered how Mortal Kombat 11 Nintendo Switch graphics compare to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This difference isn’t in a good way at all either. Creative director at NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon, assures us that this may change soon.
According to this tweet, Mortal Kombat 11 on the Nintendo Switch may be getting a graphical bump up soon.
Nintendo Switch MK11 update:
We are hoping to drop an MK11 Switch update this week (Friday) or early next week…. to make it at parity with the PS4 and Xbox1 versions. #StayTuned— Ed Boon (@noobde) May 8, 2019
The reason the game was downgraded in the first place was so that it would run at 60FPS on the portable console. Fans weren’t too pleased with Mortal Kombat 11 on the Nintendo Switch due to the graphics looking like a mobile game.
The 60FPS benchmark on the Mortal Kombat 11 Nintendo Switch edition was still important, however. This is mainly due to needing to meet the specifications of viable cross-platform play. Proper cross-play is entirely possible in a fighting game but some things need to be consistent.
That’s why it’s a curious case of how exactly Ed Boon plans to make the Nintendo Switch edition on par with the others. For all we know, NetherRealm Studios might not be modifying the Mortal Kombat 11 graphics for Nintendo Switch at all.
MK 11 like the games before it, aims to take one step forward from Mortal Kombat X. The best way to visually showcase this step is in the form of a graphics upgrade which the game definitely did. However, in order to achieve the portability of the Nintendo Switch, MK 11 had to get a heavy nerf to its graphics.
If NetheRealm Studios can truly make the Mortal Kombat 11 Nintendo Switch edition on par with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions, bravo to them.
