Capcom brought the Resident Evil franchise back to its horror survival roots with the launch of RE 7. The game not only brought the franchise back to its roots but was also well received by fans and critics alike. However, it seems that Capcom has no plans to stop here as the studio is working on an announced Resident Evil project.
In a recent interview, Resident Evil 7 Director Kōshi Nakanishi and Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Director Yasuhiro Anpo stated that Capcom is working on an unannounced RE title. Nakanishi added that while they can’t reveal anything right now but they are working on something related to Resident Evil.
This time, I focused on making a game about fear, but one must not forget about the existing characters and stories. By creating a pillar that says ‘Resident Evil is a scary game,’ we’ve also managed to make it easier to develop/iterate on other elements of Resident Evil as well.”
Also, there are many creators at Capcom, including myself, who love Resident Evil, and Anpo-san has something worthy praise that’s in development as well.
I can’t announce anything yet, but as of now, I’ve been developing a certain product. Please look forward to it.
It is important to mention that while it suggests that they are working on a new project related to the horror-survival franchise, it could also mean that they might be working on a RE 7 DLC.
Also, RE 7 failed to meet the sales expectation of 4 million units by March 31, 2017, but, Capcom is still optimistic about the game’s sales. According to Capcom, it expects the game to ship 10 million units in its lifetime.
Resident Evil 7 is a first-person horror survival game developed by Capcom for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game also supports VR but it is exclusive to PSVR, however, Capcom has confirmed that it will only be timed exclusive for one year.
