CD Projekt Red has been presented with an excellent opportunity to add a new kind of vehicle to the streets and alleys of Cyberpunk 2077.
Tesla recently revealed the all-electric battery-powered Cybertruck that features a rocket-grade metal body, armored glass, three motors, a range of 500 miles, and a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds. Including the angular industrial shape, the Cybertruck looks to be a vehicle designed for either a post-apocalyptic scenario or a dystopian metropolis like Night City.
Taking to Twitter shortly after the Cybertruck was revealed, the official social media account of Cyberpunk 2077 exchanged banter with Elon Musk himself, founder of the California-based automotive and energy company. Musk signed off by saying that he’ll see them — CD Projekt Red — in 2077.
We had a deal, Elon ?

There’s obviously no confirmation that the Cybertruck will be added in Cyberpunk 2077, at least not yet. However, it’s not something impossible as well. CD Projekt Red could easily use the opportunity to do a crossover promotion with Tesla since the Cybertruck really does give off a futuristic vibe and will be a nice fit.
Musk does get involved in games from time to time. Case in point, 2K Games added a Musk-inspired weapon in Borderlands 3 after coming across him joking around about a “sentient” flamethrower. Hence, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Cybertruck land in Cyberpunk 2077 in the coming months. Not to mention that players will be able to call vehicles like they did Roach in the Witcher franchise. The self-driving aspect would be referencing the real-world capabilities of what Tesla has been gunning for.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be the first game from the Witcher studio to feature an online functionality, which is why the developer wants to do it the right way the first time. Recently, CD Projekt Red confirmed that the multiplayer will eventually feature microtransactions but the monetization model will be “intelligent” and not compromise the goodwill CD Projekt Red has earned from players in the past. Experiments are ongoing to find a solution that provides value but don’t expect any announcements anytime soon since the multiplayer will arrive post-launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16, 2019. Based on heavy speculations, the multiplayer update will probably land sometime in 2021.
