Tekken 7 Bug Gives Eliza Unlimited Super, Gets Banned at EVO 2017

“Infinite” glitches are not uncommon for fighting games and Tekken 7 has seen its share since it was released last month.

This week, players discovered another bug that allows Eliza to execute unlimited amount of supers regardless of any meter requirements. It goes without saying that the bug is not only taking its toll for online opponents but will also have a great impact in competitive settings.

Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo, veteran and caster, shared the bug in action last night. He proposed that it should be immediately banned from all tournaments until the developer gets around to releasing a fix.

Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar, organizer of the Evolution Championship Series, took quick notice and agreed with the suggestion. If Bandai Namco is unable to address the problem by the time EVO 2017 officially begins next weekend, any player who exploits the bug will be heavily penalized and receive an automatic loss of round or the full game if necessary.

Just to clarify, Eliza will still be allowed to be picked in the annual iteration of the largest fighting games tournament on the planet. It is only the infinite super bug that will be banned.

It is not hard to see why the fighting game community is pleased with the restriction. Any character being able to unleash an unlimited amount of super is simply broken and would not be fair for opponents. In the past, tournament organizers have usually allowed infinite combo strings but this case is something different.

Bandai Namco is yet to respond to the issue. We should expect a statement soon once series director Katsuhiro Harada gets hold of it.

Last month, players discovered an annoying infinite combo string for Eliza from which opponents cannot recover. The immortal vampire can continuously spam her dive-kicks one after another to stop her opponent from getting back up. The input is similar to the instant air Cannon Strike of Cammy, and is a reversed Tiger Knee motion of Sagat from Street Fighter.

Eliza was a pre-order incentive for Tekken 7, but will go for sale later this month for everyone else.
