It has been over two years since the launch of Sunset Overdrive and no sequel for the game has been announced yet. Now Insomniac Games has explained that Sunset Overdrive sequel is a possibility if Microsoft gives a go ahead.
Speaking with GameInformer, Insomniac Games president Ted Price said that Sunset Overdrive IP is under the direction of publisher Microsoft Studios and added “You’d have to ask Microsoft” why there is no Sunset Overdrive sequel two years after the launch of the first game.
He further said that Insomniac Games owns the IP so in the future fans can see more content coming out with or without Microsoft. However, he added that he can’t promise anything.
We are passionate about that franchise, and we own it, so you may see more Sunset in the future from us. No promises, and no timeline to speak of, but it is something that represents our willingness to create unexpected experiences.
Previously Insomniac games has shown the willingness to port Sunset Overdrive to PC, however, the studio says that it not their decision to make as they need permission from Microsoft.
According to Microsoft, PC version of Sunset Overdrive is not on the table. Microsoft has said that while they loved working with the developers on Sunset Overdrive, it might be too soon to talk about a PC release.
Insomniac Games is a great partner and we love working with them, we are all proud of Sunset Overdrive and are always looking at ways to bring games to our fans. We have no further news at this time.
Currently, Insomniac Games is working on the Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4 and rumor has it that Spider-Man PS4 may feature Vulture and Prowler as villains.
Sunset Overdrive is an open-world action shooter developed by Insomniac Games exclusively for Xbox One.
