According to Jack of All Controllers Editor in Chief, Sunset Overdrive will be receiving a release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch by 2020.
This comes from a Tweet made by Ryan AlphaFoxWarfare who is the Founder and Editor-In-Chief of Jacks of All Controllers. Ryan has since deleted his Tweet but when it was online, it claimed that Insomniac Games’ Sunset Overdrive will be getting its own port on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch with a release date to fall within 2020.
This is very interesting that the Tweet has been deleted and there are a couple of reasons why it’s interesting. The primary reason is its credibility. Ryan has been in the gaming industry for quite a while now and he clearly has sources inside the gaming sector.
And this is a very serious rumor. Insomniac Games is a big studio now after its success with Spider-Man PS4 and Sunset Overdrive was one those games that made Insomniac famous. Insomniac Games even used some of Sunset Overdrive’s fluid movement system as groundwork for Spider-Man PS4.
Of course, it is equally as likely that Ryan deleted that Tweet due to its lack of credibility altogether. Ryan didn’t put any sources behind his Tweet, he didn’t link to any article nor did he mention any substantial evidence behind his claim.
Even though Ryan’s original Tweet is deleted, relevant information still exists on his CuriousCat page. CuriousCat is one of those forums where anyone can ask a person questions whilst staying anonymous. On Ryan’s CuriousCat page, an anonymous user asked the following question:
“I thought Sunset Overdrive wouldn’t come to Switch because it wouldn’t run well. Now that it’s getting The Witcher 3, I think Microsoft might be looking at letting SO come to Switch. Especially after the success of Cuphead. Think it’ll happen?”
To which Ryan answered:
“Sunset Overdrive will absolutely hit PS4 and Switch by next year.”
At the same time, we haven’t heard anything from Sony, Nintendo or Insomniac Games regarding Sunset Overdrive coming to PlayStation 4 and Switch next year.
Due to this lack of substantial evidence, it is best to treat Ryan’s claim simply as a rumor and take it with at least a grain of salt.
