After several months of waiting after the initial reveal, Sub-Zero will be getting added to Injustice 2 on July 11. His inclusion was announced a long time ago, but up until now he hasn’t been available in the game. Other characters have also been teased, with some guessing that Raiden is also coming.
This won’t be the first time that a Mortal Kombat character has clashed with the superheroes and villains of the DC Universe. Scorpion, Sub-Zero’s eternal rival and counterpart (until Mortal Kombat X where he was redeemed and they both put their feud behind them), was previously a guest character in the original Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Considering that both of the Injustice games have been developed by NetherRealm Studios, the same studio behind the Mortal Kombat games, the possibility of a crossover has always been inevitable (especially since there was a Mortal Kombat vs DC game back in 2008.) We may be seeing more Mortal Kombat characters come into the game in the future.
Some, for instance, have guessed that Raiden will be making an appearance in the game, as he has apparently been “teased” via silhouettes and other vague hints ever since the game came out. We don’t know if this is true, however, and will likely have to wait for an official announcement before he releases.
Earlier this month, Sub-Zero was shown in a trailer facing off against Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman, with all of his normal moves. While the Injustice universe isn’t as bloody and gory as the Mortal Kombat universe, there may be a use for the kind of brutality a Mortal Kombat character can provide.
Sub-Zero will be available to download in the game on July 11, so if you want a splash of Mortal Kombat in your DC fighter once again, feel free to download him and have him take on either Mr. Freeze or Captain Cold.
