Star Wars has a long-life partnership with Electronic Arts. One that will not end for a few years more. The company is dedicated to bringing us intense games in the universe of Star Wars and is not afraid to sacrifice new IPs to do so. We now find out that Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order was first destined to be a completely new game before EA decided that it would fit the Jedai universe best.
In the upcoming edition for the Official Xbox Magazine, we can find interesting insight into Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and its development course with EA. Apart from information about the main protagonist, his companion, and the game’s mechanics, we find out what the game is all about. Apparently, the project is way more than meets the eye, since it wasn’t originally destined to be a Star Wars game.
Originally EA tasked Respawn Entertainment director Stig Asmussen with creating a team for a new third-person action-adventure game. The game started taking form and EA was so impressed by it that they decided to make it into a Star Wars game. Originally, that unannounced action-adventure game featured a souls-like enemy system along with targeting similar to Zelda’s Z-targeting system, as the magazine states.
Seeing Star Wars going in a different direction than what EA is usually doing is a breath of fresh air. With Jedi Fallen Order we can be sure that lightsabers and the Force can “shine” more, rather than aiming at countless Stormtroopers. We can’t help but wonder what this unannounced EA project originally was though. Respawn has previously worked on the Titanfall franchise, elements of which will be implemented in the upcoming Star Wars game, like wall-running. Whatever it might have been, we most likely will never know.
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order has just gone gold and is ready to ship on November 15th. Although for PC, you will need to have 55 GB free for the game to be installed, the requirement will be a little lower for the Microsoft console because the official website on the platform shows that you will need 43 GB. We expect the same to be the case for Playstation 4 too.
