Star Citizen developer CIG is looking to sue a gaming publication for false reporting and serious allegations damaging the reputation of the company.
The Escapist published a couple of articles raising concerns about the progress of Star Citizen in addition to some serious allegations. After the articles were subjected to investigation and objections, the publication posted a defense and promised to retract if the allegations were proven false.
In response, Star Citizen developer CIG published an open-letter stating that the publication made defamatory accusations against the company and also threatened to take legal actions.
According to GameRanx; a redditor PoisonTaco has pointed out that backing a game does not mean that a backer is being ripped off and cited Battlefield 4 and Batman: Arkham Knight as some examples.
He also points out that CIG boasts an overly complicated and extensive system of updating their fans using series of videos, forum posts, blogposts, and so much more. All in all, backers are fully aware of what they invested in and don’t need to be told what they need to do.
