Based on the fact that Sony have sold more than 25 million Playstation 4 consoles since its release is a pretty good sign of success. To be the best performer for Sony though it has to beat the Playstation 2.
In a recent comment to GamingBolt Atindriya Bose, the Indian boss for Playstation commented on the Playstation 4 the comparison between it and the Playstation 2’s success:
“That only time can say during the console life cycle but it’s a fantastic success and we are doing everything to make it as successful as we can but whether this is the best one or this is the best one, I don’t think these are comparisons…they are nice to talk about maybe, but we are doing everything we can to make it successful as it should,”
While this is quite a humble statement, it is easy to believe that if and when they do beat the Plastation 2’s success they will celebrate the landmark. One success he believes Sony have had is their focus on the console as a gaming machine:
“That has worked very well. Our core focus is on the gamers and our advantage of being supported by gamers have definitely stood in for good ground.”
This is definitely one of the reasons the console had success after it was first revealed and was compared to the Xbox One. With Microsoft’s obsession with making their console an “entertainment” machine where games felt like a second thought, they lost a lot of ground.
It will be interesting to see how successful the Playstation 4 will be, and how this success continues through its lifecycle. With the Xbox One slowly reclaiming some of the ground it lost, it does seem unlikely that it will catch up to the Playstation 4 at this point, but who knows?
