Sony is Considering PlayStation VR for PC

PlayStation VR for PC is possible and Sony is considering it. PlayStation VR on PC is bad news for Oculus Rift and HTC VIVE.

Sony is prepping PlayStation VR for its October release for PlayStation 4, it will be the very first major VR device to release in the console market. Meanwhile, by then PC will already have a couple of VR devices released for it.

Oculus Rift and HTC VIVE are the most talked about VR headsets for PC. However, they both cost an arm and leg, and a neck too when you think about the all-in cost of a VR PC and VR headset.

On the other hand, PlayStation VR right now is the most affordable VR headset. It costs $399 without PS Camera and PlayStation Move. If only there was a way to make PlayStation VR work with PC.

Well, there could be!

Sony is considering PlayStation VR for PC and it may happen little after it releases on PlayStation 4. Due to PS4 being similar to PC in terms of its architecture, Sony thinks it is possible to enable PlayStation VR on PC.

Since Playstation 4 shares a lot of its internals with PCs, the possibility is there. At the moment we are focused on games and we are not ready to make any announcements at this stage, but I’d say there will be an expansion into various fields.

This could be bad news for Oculus Rift and HTC VIVE as they not only cost more but require even more expensive hardware to run. Meanwhile, to run a PSVR all you need are specs similar to PS4 (I assume).

PlayStation VR should first find solid ground on PlayStation 4 before moving to PC though.
