Shadow Of War launched last week with great critical acclaim, however, the game has failed to meet sales expectations. Shadow Of War is the biggest marketing campaign for Warner Bros and Warner Bors expected Shadow Of War Sales to be “massive”.

According to MCVUK, Shadow Of War sales were only a fraction of what Arkham Knight went on to sell at launch back in 2015. While the pre-orders for the game were more than what Arkham Knight had but, it seems that Shadow Of War couldn’t manage to appeal to a wider audience.

The report further notes that a majority of pre-orders might be digital only which are not included in the figure. Also, 39% of sales for Shadow Of War were on Xbox One. Furthermore, the game was even behind its predecessor, Shadow Of War for its launch week.

However, the game might have fallen short of sales expectations due to the fact that Shadow Of Mordor also launched for legacy consoles along with current-gen consoles and PC but, Shadow Of War launched for PC and current-gen consoles.

However, Shadow Of War is not the only game which fell short on sales expectations as Destiny 2 retail sales were short of the expectations. According to the report, physical sales for the game fell 50% compared to the first game in the first month of launch. According to Activision:

The original Destiny became the biggest new console video game franchise launch in history, and Destiny 2 surpassed the original’s records for engagement and digital sales in launch week. The Destiny universe will welcome a new community of players for the first time on PC on October 24th.

This number, however, if for the US as in the UK the retail sales were 58% down. However, this dip in sales could be because that Destiny 2 didn’t launch for legacy consoles as the first game did.

Shadow Of War is third-person action RPG developed by Monolith Productions for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
