AMD Ryzen CPUs have been a thorn at Intel’s side ever since they launched. In December 2018 a European Retailer revealed that AMD Ryzen outsold Intel by 2:1 and Ryzen continue to dominate the market.
According to the European retailer Mindfactory, Ryzen continues to outsell Intel by 2:1. However, it’s important to note that these numbers only represent the retailer itself and not entire Europe and North America.
Interestingly, Ryzen 5 2600 continues to lead the AMD side as it’s still the most sold AMD Ryzen CPU. On Intel’s side, Intel Core i9-9900K lead the charge but not by a huge margin.
In terms of revenue not much has changed since the last time the retailer revealed sales stats. AMD sold around 65% of CPU and Intel around 35% but, in terms of revenue, the gap is much closer.
AMD accounts for around 52% of the overall CPU revenue while Intel represents 48% of the overall revenue. Unsurprisingly, Ryzen 5 2600 and Ryzen 7 2700X brought in the most revenue.
With Ryzen continuing its streak, it seems that AMD will be the future CPU market leader. Which wouldn’t be surprising considering Ryzen CPUs cost way less compared to Intel and features more core/threads count.
With Ryzen giving Intel a tough competition, we might see a drop in Intel CPU prices in the future and increased Core/Threads count.
Some of the effects of this competition have started to show as Intel has increased core counts for its CPUs but, not as much as we would like.
Intel got really sloppy while it dominated the CPU market for over a decade. Intel wasn’t really innovating with its CPU technology and that is where AMD took the opportunity and beat Intel in its own game.
While AMD continues its winning streak, PC enthusiasts are waiting for AMD Ryzen 3000 desktop CPUs based on the 7nm process node. While we are waiting, prices and specs for Ryzen 3000 CPUs have leaked online. The following are a few highlights.

- AMD Ryzen 5 3600X – 8-Cores, 16 Threads, 4.0 GHz base clock, 4.8 GHz Boost clock, $229
- AMD Ryzen 7 3700X – 12-Cores, 24 Threads, 4.2 GHz GHz base clock, 5.0 GHz Boost clock, $329
- AMD Ryzen 7 3700 – 12-Cores, 24 Threads, 3.8 GHz base clock, 4.6 GHz Boost clock, $299
- AMD Ryzen 3850X – 16-Cores, 32 Threads, 4.3 GHz base clock, 5.1 GHz Boost clock, $499
Things are really looking good for AMD, it’s starting to take over the CPU market and current-gen consoles are powered by AMD APUs. However, AMD isn’t stopping here, as reportedly AMD Gonzalo APU will power both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett.
