According to the specifications of the HP Envy X360, the laptop will be powered by the Ryzen 5 2500U mobile CPU and AMD Vega graphics. This seems to be the first notebook that will be powered by the Zen mobile chips. The Ryzen 5 2500U will feature a base clock of 2 GH and will boost to 3.6 GHz and will come with 6 MB cache.
The AMD Ryzen 5 2500U APU features 4 cores and 8 threads and should be able to compete with the i5 series of mobile CPUs. The specifications reveal AMD Vega graphics and this could be the AMD 1500 graphics that we have heard of before. The HP Envy X360 will also come with 8GB of DDR4-2400 RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD and a full HD touch compatible display.
The AMD Vega graphics core will be integrated into the Ryzen 5 2500U, so this will be an APU instead of a CPU. This is not the first time that AMD has pulled off an APU for the mobile market and if the trend continues the APU powered laptops will be cheaper as compared to laptops powered by Intel integrated graphics.
It will be interesting to see how well the AMD Vega core in the Ryzen 5 2500U will be able to compete with integrated Intel HD graphics. We have been hearing about AMD Ryzen mobile CPUs and APUs for some time now but it seems that they are finally around the corner and the wait is not as long as we first thought.
