Rockstar Games Tax Document Seemingly Confirms Grand Theft Auto 6

A Rockstar Games tax document has apparently confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is indeed being worked on, though no news on a release date yet.

Even though we haven’t gotten any sort of official announcement about whether or not Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming, we might have just gotten confirmation anyway. A recently-leaked Rockstar Games tax return document claimed that Rockstar was working on a new “Culturally British” game, though nothing’s been confirmed yet.

That sort of tax document is often used as a loophole by game development studios to get tax breaks on games that are developed in that country, where they are able to offset the high cost of development with subsidies by claiming the game is relevant to British culture.

Red Dead Redemption 2 had previously been labeled Culturally British in order to get said subsidies, despite the game taking place entirely in the United States, so it’s likely that Grand Theft Auto 6 will follow the same pattern, unless it’s suddenly put in a fake English city.

While a recent Rockstar insider has claimed that Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, is pressing on Rockstar get a new Grand Theft Auto game out (Grand Theft Auto 5 came out seven years ago, longer than the gap between itself and Grand Theft Auto 4), we’ve seen no indication that a new Grand Theft Auto game is on the way yet.

It’s likely that Rockstar is holding back Grand Theft Auto 6 until next year, or late this year, when they can have the game be a launch title for the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5, netting it a huge profit as GTA fans rush to buy it and see how it plays on their new consoles.

Of course, there’s nothing that’s actually been confirmed yet about the game. While Rockstar will likely announce something when they’re ready, we’ll just have to wait for E3 2020, Paris Games Week, or some other big gaming event to come along where they announce it.
