Resident Evil 2 remake has ditched the fixed camera perspective for an over the shoulder one. Despite that, the game still retains the claustrophobic feeling of the original. Now, Resident Evil 2 remake producer wants to remake all fixed camera perspective Resident Evil games with over the shoulder perspective.
In an interview with PlayStation Magazine UK, producer Tsuyoshi Kanda was asked which Resident Evil game he would remake after Resident Evil 2.
According to Tsuyoshi, he would like to remake all Resident Evil games with fixed camera perspective. But, noted that for now, his priority is Resident Evil 2 remake.
Resident Evil series started with a fixed camera perspective. Capcom continued to use the fixed camera till Resident Evil 3.
Resident Evil 4 was the first mainstream Resident Evil title to feature an over the shoulder camera perspective. Capcom did change things up with Resident Evil 7 which featured the first-person perspective.
I think it would be interesting to provide over-the-shoulder versions of our other fixed-camera titles. But for the time being my priority is making Resident Evil 2 a success.
Speaking of the remake, Resident Evil 7 introduced VR support. However, Resident Evil 2 remake won’t feature VR support and the reason behind it is the over the shoulder perspective.
While the Resident Evil series has returned to its horror-survival roots but, there was a time when it almost became an action shooter. However, with Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom won’t make the same mistake.
According to Capcom, the remake will maintain the “claustrophobic horror” of the original. Tsuyoshi Kanda noted that there are certain standards for modern video games and the remake will be accessible.
But, noted that it won’t compromise on the horror. He added that a game can be accessible and a horror-survival at the same time.
It’s third-person, but it isn’t a zoomed-out view of the whole world. It’s very up close and personal with the characters on screen, and I think we’ve been able to translate that into something that feels natural and pick-up-and-playable to modern gamers, but it doesn’t lose that sense of claustrophobic horror that fans expect from the original game.
Resident Evil 2 remake is a horror-survival game in development at Capcom. The game rolls out on January 25, 2019, for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
