ReCore is without a doubt one of Microsoft’s biggest exclusives of 2016. It is a new IP but it reminds us of older titles tile Mega-Man and Metroid. The nostalgia is partly due to the fact that Keiji Inafune is involved with the project.
The lead character is able to jump, dash, double jump etc. The gameplay mechanics are somewhat inspired by Mega-Man. Still, the concept feels fresh as compared the modern shooters that mainly focus on violence.
According to Mark Pacini, ReCore’s director, ReCore’s developers took parts of the games they loved. Meanwhile, adding new elements to the mix which resulted in ReCore.
What we took when we were discussing the game — we were taking aspects of the games we liked, what we’ve done in the past, what we’d like to make, what we could do that grows out of that.
A lot of what [the game’s hero] Jewel does, in her movement her responsiveness, is very much indicative of that, of a Mega Man game. She jumps, double jumps, dashes, does all that in combat. She has the charge shot. She can change colors and use companions. Item acquisition, companion acquisition. That’s all part of the central themes of ReCore.
ReCore will release on September 13 for Xbox One and Windows 10. It will be available as part of Xbox Play Anywhere program from Microsoft. Under the program, getting a copy of ReCore for Xbox One means a free copy for Windows 10 PC and vice versa.
Other Xbox Play Anywhere games include Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Scalebound and more.
