PlayStation VR to Cost $299 Without Move and PS Camera: Sony Rep

PlayStation VR is going to cost $299, according to a Sony rep who chooses to remain anonymous. The company is yet to confirm this rumor.

PlayStation VR is coming out soon but Sony has kept us in the dark regarding its price point. We already know what Oculus Rift is going to cost, but no word from Sony’s side about PSVR other then saying that it will cost as much as a new console.

However, according to an unofficial claim from a Sony rep, PlayStation VR is going to cost $299. You may feel skeptical about such a low price point (I know I do), but apparently there are going to be two retail versions of PlayStation VR. One will go for $299 while the other will go for over $400.

Spec wise both will be same but the later will feature a PlayStation 4 camera and PS Move. It was also claimed that Sony plans to support the first-gen of PlayStation VR until PlayStation 5.

It is to be noted that none of these details are confirmed by Sony and is from an anonymous Sony rep. With that said, the part with two retail versions of the HMD seems quite plausible.

Oculus costs $600 and when you consider the all in cost, it isn’t an affordable VR device. Meanwhile, if Sony removes PS Move and Camera from the package, it will help reduce cost and make PS VR even more affordable if you already own both of these devices.

For now, we are going to file this information under rumor. What do you think should be the right price point for PlayStation VR?
