Sony has dominated the console market with PS4 and the launch of PS4 Pro has cemented the console’s place in the console market. However, with the specs of Project Scorpio revealed and its launch later this year it seems that Sony is considering about PlayStation 5 and which direction should it go.
Speaking with Nikkei, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Kaz Hirai, stated that the company will continue with consoles for a foreseeable future and that the company is also considering the direction for PlayStation 5. He added that it is not a good idea to drop consoles entirely.
Our game subsidiary is discussing which direction to take — how to use a big platform like the PlayStation going forward. Generally speaking, I don’t think it is a good idea to drop consoles entirely since we seek to offer the platform worldwide.
While Sony is still considering the future of PlayStation platform there is already talk of the upcoming PlayStaiton console that the PS5 will feature a dedicated GPU instead of an APU. The info was revealed by someone important in an interview with Tweaktown.
The site got a chance of speaking with someone, who will remain anonymous, about Sony’s next console, PlayStation 5. This, someone, was asked if the next console from Sony will have a discrete GPU or not, to this the someone replied that “I can’t say exactly” and when asked if the console will feature an APU like the Scorpio, to this he said “no”.
While Sony is in no mood of leaving the consoles behind but, according to the industry analyst, Micheal Patcher, the console software will soon move off the console by 2019 and that is when Sony will lose its market dominance.
