Cloud Imperium Games are allowing you to play Star Citizen free for another week, allowing players to download the game and test it out before they decide on committing any money to the game, which is still yet to release or even have a concrete release date. The game is currently in alpha 2.4.1.
Star Citizen is the product of Chris Roberts, the creator of such classic space games as Wing Commander and Freelancer. Star Citizen is only the latest in this sort of game, allowing you to fly through the galaxy, trade with other people, and dogfight. There’s even a single-player mode called Squadron 42. The mode chronicles humanity’s war against an alien species.
If you want to play Star Citizen free, all you have to do is go to the Roberts Space Industries website and register to try it out. Due to it being in alpha the game is still split into multiple small pieces. These include a mini-universe to fly around in, a combat mode where you can dogfight other players, and a social hub.
The last opportunity people had to play Star Citizen free was back in April when CIG released a free fly period that people could use to try out the game. Star Citizen is one of the most ambitious kickstarters around, and features the vocal talents of Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, John Rhys-Davies, and Gillian Anderson.
Since the previous free fly week that Star Citizen offered, the alpha has added in the first few parts of the persistent universe that Star Citizen promises. This includes a persistent in-game bank account, and you can also keep the weapons and clothes that you buy in the game.
It’s up to you if you want to try out Star Citizen and see if it’s worth all the hype.
