Nvidia has been dominating the GPU market with its wide range of GPUs and GameWorks which are featured in every other PC game and now Nvidia has claimed that it is 10x bigger than its competitor which obviously is AMD.
During the recent earnings call for Q4 2017, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang noted that they are “10x bigger than our GPU competitor” and added that compared to AMD, the company has a lot of more suppliers than its competitor which supply them.
While Nvidia’s statement about being 10x bigger than AMD doesn’t seem like much but, when we compare market caps for both companies, you will notice that the company is really 10 times bigger than AMD. Currently, AMD’s market cap stands at $10.8 Billion while Nvidia’s market cap stands at $131 Billion.
Furthermore, Huang’s statement about the company having a lot more suppliers might be a direct jab at AMD who recently revealed in their earnings call for the quarter revealing that a shortage of memory is holding them back from increasing their GPU production.
Principal Analyst at Shrout Research, Ryan Shrout, took notice of Huang’s statement and took it to Twitter stating that he doesn’t believe AMD for their statement about memory shortage holding them back.
However, there is a general shortage of GPUs in the market due to the sudden boom in cryptocurrency mining and both companies are trying to figure out to end the shortage to bring the GPU prices to normal and make them available for the gamers out there.
Nvidia has also requested the retailers to prioritize gamers over miners but, it will be a while before get to see the effect of that and it is up to the retailers how they handle things moving forward.
