Since Nintendo Switch is a hybrid console that sports handheld and console for gaming. Interestingly, the recent thermal tests of handheld device tell that it runs cool, Switch runs At 37C max. The FLIR images tell how hot the device gets under load conditions.
The images captured and shown below are events of testing various games to see how far handheld heats. The portable hardware heat testing was done while running three different games: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Snipperclips and Splatoon 2. None of the game exceeded above 37C and that Switch runs At 37C, which is not hot temperature for a handheld.

Nintendo Switch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Test
Mario kart 8 gave an average temperature of 25.2C while it peaked at top 37C under high load in-game graphics conditions. The minimum temperature captured was 18.6C at the main menu or other low load events in Mario Kart 8.
Nintendo Switch Snipperclips Test
The peak maximum temperature for Snipperclips reached 35.7C, while the average temperature was 19.6C. However, under low graphical loads, the temperature fell down to a minimum of 19.6C.
Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 Test
Splatoon2 load heat reached a maximum of 35C and a minimum of 21.2C. The average temperature most of the times was 21.2C.
All the tests tell that Switch runs At 37C max, and tests are based while undocked conditions. It is worth noting that when docked, Nintendo Switch will unlock the full potential of its CPU and GPU and theoretically, it may get hotter than undocked mode.
Nintendo Switch is just a couple of weeks away from launch and gamers are eager to get their hands on it. As the launch is getting closer more and more details for the game have been revealed and now some new details about the console’s controllers have emerged.
In parallel news, According to a Reddit post, Nintendo Switch controller will come with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that will last for 40 hours.
