One of the hottest and debated topics of the present time in the gaming industry is cross-play. Hot because it is, perhaps, the dawn of a new advancement in online gaming and debated because Sony has this specific kind of stubbornness, or perhaps it’s their greed that has kept the company from support cross-play.
Recently a popular Fortnite streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins shared his understanding of why Sony does not seem to support cross-play. According to him, for Sony, it is more of a matter of greed.
On August 9, 2018, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 launch took place and during the event, Ninja shared this thought regarding Sony’s cross-platform play, he said,
I mean, like, obviously I love Sony, I love PlayStation. I’ve been playing them my entire life. But, when push comes to shove, it’s a business decision. There’s a reason they’re not allowing players on the PlayStation to play with Xbox. And I mean—it’s just greed.
You must be familiar with Bethesda’s Fallout 76. Well, fans have been wondering, will it be supporting crossplay? Apparently, that is not going to be the case and the blame goes to Sony, the director of Bethesda Game Studios, Todd Howard himself is noted to have said that when it comes to Cross Platform, Sony is not easy to work with.
In fact, scratch that and consider this, you must be familiar with Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 to be in the works, whose beta testing has been going lately. Well it a rumor but comes from a credible source, which seems to suggest that Black Ops 4 Blackout mode won’t be supporting cross play, once again credit goes to Sony.
Have you ever wondered, why Nintendo has remained a popular name lately that is because unlike Sony, Nintendo actually supports developers to incorporate crossplay in their games.
Still, not all hope is lost, Sony has also shown some interest as well and frankly speaking if this pressure is kept on them, they might finally even go for it.
