There is a large likelihood of Blizzard announcing a brand new expansion pack for Hearthstone at BlizzCon 2017 next month.
Several factors contribute to this speculation. Firstly, the developer has already committed itself to be talking about “what’s next” for the popular free-to-play card game. Secondly, the developer is known to make such announcements at the annual convention as it did in the past with Mean Streets of Gadgetzan (2016) and League of Explorers (2015). Thirdly, the game is slated to receive one more expansion pack before the Year of the Mammoth concludes and this seems like the perfect opportunity to do so.
Lastly, the French voice actor for the Innkeeper teased earlier today that he is doing voice-work for an unknown card in Hearthstone. The posted video has since then been taken down but briefly showed the artwork for the card in question. It featured a Kobold figure with a backpack and a pickaxe.
It is interesting that Blizzard specifically stated that it would “delve deep into how the Year of the Mammoth will come to a close.” The choice of words could be intentional and we may be heading down the mines of a long forgotten mountain for riches and all sorts of hidden traps.
BlizzCon 2017 will take place between November 3-4. The official schedule was released yesterday to confirm that the Hearthstone panel will begin at 1:45 p.m. PDT on the first day.
Knights of the Frozen Throne is the latest expansion pack for Hearthstone and released in August. The theme explores the possibility of the Lich King successfully defeating all the heroes of Warcraft at Icecrown Citadel and raising them to do his bidding with the malicious powers of Frostmourne.
