Neil Druckmann Talks About Uncharted Gender Inclusion And Diversity Approach

In Uncharted the lost legacy, there are two female protagonists. Neil Druckmann talks about Uncharted Gender Inclusion and diversity.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the standalone DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, has taken a bit of a spin in terms of exactly how Uncharted gender inclusion works. With the two central characters being female characters this time, it seems Naughty Dog’s joining in with gender equality in gaming.

The last few years have seen a surge of video games with important female characters. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Overwatch, The Last Of Us, and Dishonored 2 have all featured important female characters that get equal sharing with male characters, and many of them have become iconic characters in their own right.

Uncharted gender inclusion is a part of this, as with what they’re doing in The Lost Legacy, and Ellie being a more central character in The Last Of Us 2, Naughty Dog is joining the growing crowd.

Neil Druckmann, creative director of Naughty Dog, has said that he believes audiences are able to sympathize with pretty much anyone, from any background. You’ll be able to sympathize more with them, he adds, if you see yourself in that character.

In the case of Uncharted gender inclusion, both Nadine and Chloe, who serve as the protagonists of the expansion, are also a stretch into the diversity field. Nadine, being black, and Chloe, being half-Indian, are a good step away from Naughty Dog’s normal fare of all-American Nathan Drake and whoever else he brings on his adventures.

While Drake and his companions normally stop over in various countries for a short time in each Uncharted game, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be taking place entirely in India as Chloe and Nadine search for the artifact known as the Tusk of Ganesh.

To see the fruits of Naughty Dog’s efforts at Uncharted gender inclusion for yourself, you’ll have to pick up Uncharted: The Lost Legacy when it releases on the Playstation 4.
