NBA 2K18 launched for PC and consoles with critical acclaim, however, not all critics were happy with the game and specifically for VC controversy and one site, in particular, TheSixthAxis, gave the game 3/10 to which publisher 2K has not taken kindly and has forced the site to take down their NBA 2K18 review.
NBA 2K18 review for the site has been updated with a statement: “In discussion with 2K Games, we’ve temporarily removed the score pending a statement with regard to our criticisms, at which point it will be reinstated. Additionally, a draft conclusion was posted that incorrectly characterised our score as a protest vote, and has been reworded to reflect that our criticisms are rooted in the effect that VC and microtransactions have on the gameplay.”
However, TheSixthAxis is not only media outlet to criticize the use of VC as other media outlets such as ours have definitely raised concerns over it but, they have given the game a respectable score and that is why 2K didn’t ask them to take their review down. According to the reviewer:
After review went live I’ve had no direct contact with 2K, instead their PR is chatting with my editor. All I know is that 2K is to issue a statement of some sort regarding issues raised in the review. Of course, the real issue is what updates the 2K18’s VC system gets. Just think of this as a review now in progress. If things remain unchanged so will my opinion. I’m not in direct contact with their PR department. Going through the site editor instead. Obviously ruffled quite a few feathers.
NBA 2K18 is a basketball simulation game developed by Visual Concepts PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
