Fans of the Metal Gear franchise were not happy with the announcement of Metal Gear Survive, a Metal Gear spinoff co-op game. However, it has been a while since Konami shared any new details about the game and despite all the silence, the company has revealed that Metal Gear Survive is right on track for 2017 release.
In the latest Konami Financial Results presentation material, Metal Gear Survive is listed as a 2017 title. According to the listing, the game is set to release by the end of 2017 which means that Konami might reveal the release date for the game during this year’s E3 which will be held next month.
Aside from this spinoff game, a Metal Gear Solid movie is also in the works. According to the director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Metal Gear solid is the most important franchise for him on the planet and praised the work of Hideo Kojima. He added that he recently has been meeting with Kojima himself and that’s been “like a dream”.
That is a property that I will fight tooth and nail to make sure is done properly because it’s so easy to screw it up and so easy for a studio to try and make it into G.I. Joe or try and make it into Mission: Impossible or try and make it into something that it’s not. Metal Gear Solid needs to be exactly what it needs to be, which is Metal Gear Solid.
Metal Gear creator, Hideo Kojima is also not happy with the direction in which Metal Gear Survive is headed. According to Kojima, the game has nothing in common with the franchise.
It has nothing to do [with me]. I know absolutely nothing about it. That’s because it’s totally unrelated to me, right? Um, how should I put this? Well, for me, Metal [Gear] is espionage with political fiction. Right? So, because of that, there’s no reason that zombies would show up. This is how I see it, you know?
Metal Gear Survive is a co-op survival action game and it will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2017.
