Mark Laidlaw, the script writer behind the Half Life series recently posted a blog article with the synopsis of Half Life 3. Though his motives were clearly personal the community did not take it lightly, concluding in rage and discomfort that moved on to other Valve games as well.
Dota 2 started getting bad reviews after the obvious cancelation of Half-Life 2 Episode 3 and the oproar it’s script created and Valve had to set things straight. Many said that Laidlaw’s post was made as a tactical move before the release of the company’s next videogame Artifact.
Artifact will be a Dota 2 themed card game which is already much talked about and is most likely to reach the popylarity of Hearthstone and Gwent. Though Artifact has nothing to do with Half Life, fans started taking their rage out to wherever Valve was involved.
To clear the air Laidlaw posted a series of tweets in which he reasons his actions saying:
“People are apparently trying to divine some connection between Artifact and the timing of the Epistle, There’s none.”
His motives were clearly personal as he wanted to process through his retirement and setting things aside for him. He states that the “Epistle” post was not tactical but emotional and as closure he confesses that “Valve is family”.
As a result the community took the matter in it’s own hands releasing a campaign called Epistle 3 Jam where people from all over the world could help make Half Life 2 Episode 3 come true.
Is Half Life 3 dead? Will it’s fans step up and try to get it done on their own? Only time will tell. The only sure thing is that the idea of Half Life 2 Episode 3 is out there and people can go wild with their imagination so that the game could finally come to life.
