We know that among MOBAs, there is hardly a game that comes close to League of Legends; Riot Games has been growing by leaps and bounds whether it is the number of monthly active users playing the game or the revenue generated from them.
Although the developers are yet to disclose any official figures, research and analysis firm Super Data Research estimates that the game is going to earn about $1.25 billion from microtransactions in the 12 months of 2015.
This is a major upward change as compared to the last two years. In 2013 the company had earned $624 million in revenue which increased quickly to $1 billion in 2014. So far, the official figures revealed by the developers of League of Legends have been for the year’s first three quarters where the company earned $1.064 billion.
It is expected that this figure will go up by another $186 million.
Just to put things in the context, this is much higher than the total revenue earned by the four biggest games in the market combined. Dota 2, CS: GO, Smite and Call of Duty are the five most popular games in this regard after LoL and their total earnings were $557 million for the first nine months of the year.
