The Scene Where Ellie Plays The Guitar Is Not In The Last Of Us Part 2, Says Creative Director

The Last of Us Part 2 creative director confirmed that the reveal trailer is a scene with familiar faces as an announcement and not in-game cinematic.

Were you waiting for The Last of Us Part 2 official release to see that scene where Ellie was playing guitar again? Did you think that bringing Joel back would be as obvious as putting him in the first reveal trailer? Apparently, Naughty Dog was teasing us with this trailer as creative director has confirmed that it’s not a cinematic from The Last of Us Part 2 but merely a scene with familiar faces as an announcement.

During an AIAS Game Maker’s Notebook where Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog talked with Insomniac Games’ Ted Price, The Last of Us Part 2 creative director revealed that the first trailer of the game we saw is not even in the game. As it seems, the developers didn’t want to spoil the existence of new characters and the brutality of the game so they decided that giving fans a familiar trailer would be the best way to announce it. As he stated:

“The first trailer we showed kind of exists purely as an announcement. It’s not a scene that takes place in the game”

However, the second trailer is indeed a cinematic from the game, introducing new characters and raising some questions to the fans. Who are all these characters? Is this woman Ellie’s mother? What could she possibly have done? Naughty Dog wants you to be wondering about all these questions before The Last of Us Part 2 gets released and they are finally answered.

According to Druckmann, the 6-minute trailer we saw in Paris Games Week gave Naughty Dog the chance to polish some details and push our expectations a bit further.

Listening to the interview is actually a breath of fresh air for all The Last of Us fans out there, so if you have some spare time you should give it a go.

To sum things up for The Last of Us Part 2 on more time, Naughty Dog is currently done with almost 50-60% of the game and will probably be released in 2019. Reportedly, we’ll be able to see gameplay footage from the game at E3 2018 so we’ll have to wait a bit more until we get to see more action.
