We talked about Intel Coffee Lake Z390 motherboards coming out in the second half of 2018 and here we have our first mention of an Intel Coffee Lake Z390 Motherboard. The mention of the Z390 motherboard came up in a benchmarking database. Even though Intel Coffee Lake CPUs are out you can only buy Z370 motherboards even if you buy a processor with a locked multiplier.
Z370 motherboards are very expensive as compared to mainstream boards and they add no value if you have a locked CPU. The Z300 chipset comes with native USB 3.1, 802.11ac And Bluetooth 5.0 support. As of right now, there is little that we know about the Z300 chipset. Seeing how there is little to no IPC gains on the new Coffee Lake CPUs I am not sure what the Intel Z390 chips will have to offer.
Intel Coffee Lake Z390 motherboards will feature 20 PCI-E 3.0 lanes, up to six USB 3.1 Gen.2 10 Gbps, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, SDXC 3.0 controllers, next-generation Thunderbolt, DisplayPort 1.4 support, Programmable quad-core audio DSP, SoundWire digital audio hole, etc.
The mainstream H370 and H310 models will be coming out in early 2018 and that will allow users to use a 6 core CPU on a $60 motherboard, something that has never been done before on the Intel side. People that have already got locked CPUs are waiting for these motherboards to come out and so am I.
For business use, we have the Q370 and Q360 motherboards that will be coming out alongside the H370 and H310 models. If you have got a locked SKU and are waiting for mainstream motherboards to come out then I can imagine your pain. Sit tight as the wait is not that long now.
