At least five former Infinity Ward developers have returned to the studio, according to their LinkedIn profiles. This makes us somewhat believe that the next Infinity Ward game is indeed Modern Warfare 4 as most of these developers have worked on previous games in Modern Warfare series.
The returning Infinity Ward developers include Mark Grigsby (Animation Director), Alex Roycewicz (Game Designer), Geoff Smith (Multiplayer Design Director), Joel Emslie as (Art Director), and Zied Rieke (Founder of Infinity Ward). Animation Director Mark Grigsby worked on the previous two games in Modern Warfare series along with others. Zied Rieke, who’s now the gameplay director is the only one of them all who has worked on all three Modern Warfare games.
As GameSpot notes, all of these developers played an important role in Modern Warfare games. Grigsby helped create some of the best weapons including that satisfying knife melee attack in original Modern Warfare.
Both Roycewicz and Smith, on the other hand, designed some of the best maps including Overgrown and Wetwork of Modern Warfare. As for Emslie (Art Director), he’s the creator of the Modern Warfare series’ most famous and beloved character: Ghost. Ricker had a huge effect on Call of Duty franchise as well as he’s the logic behind the spawn in Team Death Match mode and he also came up with regenerating health system in Call of Duty 2, which continues to be used in most Call of Duty games until now.
Before returning to Infinity Ward, Grigbsy, Roycewicz, Smith, and Emslie worked at Respawn Entertainment on Titanfall series. Apart from them, Rieke worked at Naughty Dog before returning to IW.
With such a strong team now back at the studio, it’s safe to assume that Call of Duty 2019 is Modern Warfare 4.
In addition to these developers, a former Infinity Ward game developer Robert Bowling also teased on Twitter that the next game is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 through a series of cryptic Tweets.
Another leak from GameStop tells that the game is most likely to be unveiled in June. To find if these speculations are true or not, we will have to wait because Infinity has not yet confirmed the title of their next Call of Duty game. Whatever the title is, it will most probably release later this year for Sony’s PlayStation 4, Microsoft’s Xbox One and PC.
