Back in last year’s Sony press conference during the E3, President Shuhei Yoshida stepped on stage, talked about a specific game that was very close to him, and what followed after his brief introduction was the trailer of Bloodborne.
It’s no secret that From Software’s immensely successful (and immensely difficult) title was highly beneficial for Sony and it’s PlayStation 4 console, but Yoshida has always had a special place in his heart for anything that has come out of the From Soft studios.
The very reason for this is Yoshida’s own personal involvement in the development and testing of these games, particularly Bloodborne. The busy man gave an interview on the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast, explaining how despite his packed schedule he manages to find time for games.
Of course, no game gets equal time from Yoshida, but Bloodborne in particular was one that had his highest involvement. During the final few months of Bloodborne’s development, Yoshida was heavily involved in testing the gameplay and suggesting tweaks, and Hidetaka Miyazaki and his staff were constantly polishing the game, with the reiteration continuing till both parties were satisfied.
The very reason the game was delayed is because Yoshida felt that it needed further polishing, and according to him, the final release has really shown the immense work put in finalizing and presenting a finished product. How did he get through some of the most difficult parts of the game? Simple: he asked producer Masaaki Yamagiva for some insight (pun intended).
Yoshida is currently involved in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, but his love for From Soft’s notoriously difficult titles doesn’t seem to be coming to an end anytime soon. We shouldn’t be surprised to see further breakthrough titles from the developer, especially when the President of Sony is at the helm of their testing.
