It certainly appears that the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) will not be losing Henry Cavill as Superman for the years to come, despite how the Kryptonian has seemingly gone underground since his half-baked and computer-generated appearance last year.
According to a new report from Revenge of the Fans earlier today, the actor is looking to extend his contract with Warner Bros. in order to continue wearing the red cape on the silver screen for much longer than what is currently bolded above the dotted line.
Cavill confirmed last year that he is only contracted to appear as Superman one more time. This led to fans believing that Man of Steel 2 would be his last movie unless otherwise. However, it was not long before there were strong rumors about Superman making an appearance in Shazam! next year in an unknown capacity.
It is with certainty that Warner Bros. would be looking to keep the image of Superman fresh for the audience and not have the last son of Krypton go into stasis until the release of the sequel, which is yet to even take off the ground. On that note, both Warner Bros. and Cavill are very open to the idea of extending the contract.
Cavill made his debut as Superman in Man of Steel (2013) and returned to reprise the role in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017). While the last movie may have left the masses disappointed, Cavill has been largely accepted as the new face of the iconic superhero.
Man of Steel 2 remains without any official details. There is only speculation that the sequel will not arrive before 2020 or 2021. There is no denying that Superman will eventually return. However, his standalone performance will have to wait until he joins the silver screen with other superheroes from the DCEU. This includes cameos in upcoming projects, as well as Justice League 2.
