Henry Cavill, otherwise known as Superman in the DC Cinematic Universe or more recently August Walker in Mission Impossible: Fallout, has expressed interest in playing Geralt of Rivia in the Witcher Netflix series. As a gamer himself it might be a dream come true, but Henry Cavill as Geralt is rather out-there.
Apparently Cavill is one of an increasing number of different actors and actresses who are also gamers in their spare time. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays Dungeons and Dragons, Terry Crews plays Overwatch and would have loved to play Doomfist, and now Henry Cavill has played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt all the way through, and has even read the books that the games are based on.
His love for the franchise is likely the reason why he has a dream of Henry Cavill as Geralt. As someone who’s played the games and read the books, Cavill might be in one of the best positions to be able to become Geralt; he would be familiar with how he speaks, the world that he’s in, the different monsters and factions Geralt might encounter, and more.
The Witcher Netflix series is apparently going to be something of a hybrid of the game universe and the book universe, meaning that Geralt might be encountering threats from both universes and thus making it something that both game fans and book fans can enjoy together.
Henry Cavill also has some serious acting chops, even if a large number of the movies that he’s been in have gotten either mixed reviews or have been outright thrashed by critics. Given the right script and right director, Henry Cavill as Geralt might be a very interesting version of Geralt.
The Witcher Netflix series is supposed to be coming out in 2020 with an eight-episode first season filmed primarily in Eastern Europe (fitting since the world the game is in is based on Poland). Whether we’ll see Henry Cavill as Geralt, however, remains to be seen.
