It’s been two years since Halo 5: Guardians released, but that doesn’t mean that 343 Industries is ready to bring out Halo 6 yet. The game won’t be making an appearance at this year’s E3, meaning it’ll be a while longer before we have a conclusion to the second Halo trilogy of games.
343’s community manager Brian Jarrard said that while there won’t be a new entry in the new Halo trilogy at E3, the studio will have something. However, he was quiet on what that actually was.
While there has been some confirmation that 343 Industries has been working on Halo 6 for over a year now, they’re still not really ready to bring in a trailer or any form of gameplay to the conference. Some details we’ve seen from that game include that all subsequent Halo games will now have split-screen multiplayer, and the upcoming game will focus on the Chief.
Halo 5: Guardians ended with Cortana and a number of other rogue UNSC AI units taking control of the Prometheans before apparently embarking on a conquest of the galaxy to save humanity from itself, with Cortana at their head. With that in mind, the next Halo game will focus on the Chief and the crew of the Infinity attempting to stop her.
343 has also undergone some shakeups in recent months. Josh Holmes, the creative director of Halo 4, left the studio last November. And, earlier this week, Dan Ayoub, an executive producer at the studio, left to join Microsoft’s Mixed Reality team.
While a lot of Halo fans are no doubt anxiously waiting for Halo 6, at least a semi-steady stream of content is still being put out for Halo 5. In the meantime, we’ll probably have to wait for a future E3 in order for us to see any sort of content about a new mainline Halo game.
