Valve is set to launch of Half-Life Alyx in March 2020. Alyx will take place between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. The publisher might make ‘Half-Life Collection’ free to stir hype for the Alyx launch.
The free Half-Life Collection appears as an event, displayed in a dialogue box on Steam. Many people claim to have seen the pop-up box. The dialogue box states Half-Life collection will be free until Half-life Alyx launches. If you get one such notification on your screen, it will contain options to either close or view the event. Upon clicking the ‘view event’ button, Steam directs users to an error page. It shows the specified event as invalid.
The supposedly free Half-Life Collection offered by this event could have been the Half-Life bundle. The bundle comprises of 8 Half-Life titles. The games include Team Fortress Classic, Half-Life Opposing Force, Half-Life, Half-Life Blue Shift, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 1: Source, Half-Life 2: Chapter one, Half-Life Chapter Two. Fans might be able to play these games till Valve released Half-Life Alyx. This game bundle is worth about $34 and is currently available at just $20 on Steam.
Although this game bundle could not be the actual Half-Life Collection as there has been no official statement. Steam still has not said anything about such dialogue boxes appearing to users. But it sparked excitement amongst gamers leading to disappointment as Steam shows an error page in the end.
It could also be possible that a Half-Life Collection is released with Half-Life Alyx. Needless to say, we should wait until an official declaration by Valve. Half-Life Alyx will be a VR title and will first launch on the SteamVR. It is going to be the first Half-Life title in the past 14 years.
